‘Merdeka Square’,Kuala lumpur-
Also known as ‘Dataran Merdeka’ which means Indepedence square. Once called as Padang (field), this was the Cricket ground belonging to the neighbouring Royal Selanger club, built in 1884. Adjuscent to it is the old Administrative building of British Malaya, built in 1897. It is now occupying Ministry of Information, communication, and culture. British flag had came down on 30th August, 1957 minight..It is a beautiful garden square, with victorian fountain inside. This was brought here from England in 1904, and erected.
Malasya with 10% size of India and population of 2.9 crores . 60% people are Muslims. They still hold western and other cultural monuments as precious. Free Parlimentary democracy is followed, Sultan the King is given the due respect, as in UK etc. Civil society lead their life according to the present modern style, in dress, talk, interaction. Palm tree cultivation for palm oil, rubber are there, but their main income is from business. They tap their own petrol, and it is cheap (1 litre cost 1 Ringitt =20 Rs.). Tourism also is another income. There is one Ginting highland hotel, named as ‘World first Hotel’ , of 12 floor with 6150 rooms, on the top of Ginting hill 6000 ft above sea level. By going there by ropeway, it is a world in itself with all types of activities including gambling casinos.. People are enjoying freedom. Religion has no role.
